This tasty snack or side is not only better for you than french fries, but also way easier to make. They’re perfect for serving with all your favorite dipping sauces.

How to make celery root fries

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking tray with baking paper for easy clean-up.

Step 2: Cut the ends off the celery roots, then peel them to remove the thick outer skin. Cut the celery roots into thin matchsticks.

Step 3: Bring a pot of cold water to a boil, then add the celery roots and cook for 2 minutes.

Step 4: Drain and set aside to cool for 5 minutes.

Step 5: Add the fries, oil, and fresh rosemary to a large mixing bowl. Toss until the fries are well-coated.

Step 6: Place the fries in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Grind the black pepper on top.

Step 7: Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping the fries halfway through.

Once they’re nice and crispy, your fries are ready to enjoy! I recommend garnishing with fresh rosemary and serving with your favorite dipping sauces.

What is celery root?

Celery root can also be called celeriac root, knob celery, and even turnip-rooted celery. Unlike celery harvested for the green shoots that grow out of the ground, celery root is harvested for the bulbous stem beneath the shoots.

Don’t let the rough, brown exterior fool you. Once you peel your celery root, the smooth interior is tasty enough that you can even eat it raw!

Much like potatoes, once peeled, you should either use the celery root right away or submerge it in water. Otherwise, the exposure to air will discolor the peeled flesh.

The flavor of this veggie is somewhere between a potato and a stalk of celery, but with a little nuttiness. Overall, it’s very mild, which makes it great for recipes like these oven-roasted fries!

Storage

You can store leftover fries in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should be enjoyed within two days.

I recommend reheating the fries in the oven before serving. They may not be quite as crispy as when they were freshly cooked, but heating them in the oven will definitely refresh them.

Instructions
